One of the main things you need to do now is get revved up bigtime about losing those stubborn pounds; then get with your doctor and work out a plan for weight loss that will include an eating plan and exercises, and get started....won't be a snap, but get started. You need to get going big time and make that plan work, because any plan will work if the drive is there.
This is going to be a struggle and will take work on your part; keep your eyes focused on your plan and ignore those whacko claims of the quick fix pills and diets that will turn you into a beauty queen in a short time. Losing weight after a pregnancy is a touchy subject and should be handled by a doctor so a controlled weight loss after pregnancy plan can be set up and followed; anything less would be a dangerous undertaking.
You should choose a weight loss plan that takes into consideration the highs and lows of pregnancy your body has just gone through, the assault of birth, and now breastfeeding; so proceed gently and allow some healing to take place. Your body has to have a breather too after all it's just been through, so steer clear of the rapid weight loss plans, they are lethal. The key here is not to drop weight rapidly; just slow and healthy, taking about 9 mos. to complete. Give your body a break and allow at least as much time to take the weight off as it took to put it on.
Mother Nature is a marvelous engineer; you were designed in such a way that you would automatically put on weight once you became pregnant, not only to support the developing child within your body, but also to be able to breastfeed that child after he was born and supply his needed nutrients. There is nothing more important to the newborn after birth than having a good source of nutrition; and Mother Nature has provided that source in the form of the breastfeeding mother who with a healthy nutritional system of her own, can be the sole support for the nutrition for that baby and its development. Weaning the baby from breastfeeding will be the impetus that starts the gradual loss naturally of the pregnancy weight that you have been carrying. One more interesting fact from the pregnancy annals is that many new mothers become aware of a significant drop in their postpartum weight after the baby is weaned.
Another factor that is worth mentioning here is that new mothers have been shown to burn up to 700 calories a day breastfeeding. When you think of it, this could contribute a sizable amount of weight loss after pregnancy when allied with other weight loss plans. How much exercise you are getting can be just as important a factor in maximizing a weight loss plan; just like a good dietary eating plan and all the scores of other factors that make a difference when combined.
A good weight loss plan is an adjunct to a healthy lifestyle; it helps you lose the unwanted pounds slowly and in a healthful way, it gives you a good base of sound nutrition that help keep you healthy and active, and it allows you to be able to breastfeed the baby and take care of it without getting run down or running out of steam. It is not hard to stay healthy when you are taking care of a baby, just a fact that you must be; you cannot let your health slide nor suffer because ultimately the baby will suffer as well since he depends on you for life itself. Try and keep your daily routine as sensible as possible, and on the healthy side as well as one that contains things you like, so you won't get bored with it and give up. The most wonderful plan in the world is dead in the water if no one likes it or will follow it, and what good is that. Make sure you go over your plan carefully and that everything fits just right; that way you can enjoy your new life and your new little life, your baby.
