Hot and Raw

I received a question from a reader yesterday – asking me if I’d heard of David Wolfe?

Yes, I have.

David Wolfe promotes a ‘Raw Food’ diet for humans.

He is quite correct in his philosophy – we are a frugivorous species of animal.

Our diet should be approximately 75-80% raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

Our protein should also be harvested from the vegetable kingdom – to include: approximately 60-80 gms of protein per day from avocados, honey, nuts, seeds, dried fruits and some dairy products.

Starches – breads, biscuits, corn. oats, barley, potatoes, rice, etc should comprise approximately 100 gms per day and of course must be lightly heated in order to begin the digestive cycle – we cannot break down the starch without the addition of heat.

However, it is not necessary to use heat in any other aspect of the human diet.

Heat is a catalyst and as such, enters into a reaction, speeds it up and is not used up in the process.

All foods have what is called a ‘critical temperature’ – that temperature at which the food article begins to deteriorate and lose its goodness.

This critical temperature is not very high – I recommend that you check out: INFLUENCE OF FOOD COOKING ON THE BLOOD FORMULA OF MAN by Paul Kouchakoff (Suisse), M.D. of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry, Lausanne, Switzerland–go to: http://www.halalvitamins.com/cooking.htm

And after all this – please remember and keep in mind that food – whether hot or cold - is only one part of the 8 step process leading to health.

So eat it raw, eat it slow and eat it in its natural state.
